Is the area where you were caught zoned for speed traps? In Cali, they have to be. 2. Also, consider time and conditions when you were driving. If it was in a backwoods area, high noon and no one was around, then it is theoretically legal for you to drive at speeds there are not highly excessive. The definition of highly excessive is of course, the judge's and will vary. I actually got busted for speeding in the above stated conditions - I was going about 60 in a 45mph zone. No one was around and it was noon on a sunday. I went to court and explained the conditions and the judge dismissed it.
